After nine full-length LPs and a 20+ year career, Marilyn Manson is still proving to be a viable force in the rock world. Today, he has released his tenth studio album, Heaven Upside Down, which features ten songs covering 47 minutes, and was produced by Tyler Bates.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Manson commented on Heaven Upside Down, saying "It's pretty violent in its nature for some reason... And it's not emotional in the same way. It's got a chip on its shoulder."
"Tattooed In Reverse" relies heavily on glitchy electronics, and "WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE" is amplified by Manson's chilling vocals during the chorus. A dark vibe is set by sultry beats, angry guitars, and unnerving vocals in "SAY10," making it one of the album's most haunting tracks. Alternatively, "KILL4ME" has a relatively straightforward alternative rock approach, and the nearly eight minute "Saturnalia" is a perfect fit for a dimly lit dancefloor.
Heaven Upside Down finds the shock rocker revisiting familiar sounds from albums past while reimagining his trademark edginess in new ways. The album transitions smoothly from track to track, and each song proves that Manson has crafted and perfected his unique rock style.
Songs we like are "KILL4ME, "WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE," "SAY10," and "Blood Honey."
