J. Roddy Walston and the Business are a southern rock band in the post-punk, Kings of Leon sense of the term. Loud guitars and blues influences are still part of the landscape, but there's a simplicity and urgency to the music as well.
Guitar player Billy Gordon lays down a really solid rhythmic foundation to the song, locking in really nicely with drummer Steve Colmus and bass player Logan Davis. It's a tight groove that's bluesy without sounding tired. Walston's vocals push the song to another level, as he really digs in and screams in a way that definitely suits the "Heavy Bells" concept of the song. The configuration in the radio studio has the band members in a circle looking at each other, which is a nice intimate setting that you could never quite get on stage or television. In all, a rockin' performance.
