Dallas pop-rock collective The Polyphonic Spree have released a new track called "Hold Yourself Up" from their upcoming album Yes, It's True. The record is due for release on August 6th, and it will be the first taste of new material from the band since 2007's The Fragile Army. With a driving backbeat, wailing synths, chiming bells, distorted guitars and a six-piece choir, the track is definitely the eclectic mix of sounds you've come to expect from the Spree. Take a listen to it in the player above.
"Hold Yourself Up" and its parent album are the product of some low-key, low-pressure recording sessions, Rolling Stone reports. For Yes, It's True, the band chose to work at their own pace, producing the music "in distinct stages." Spree frontman Tim DeLaughter is particularly fond of "Hold Yourself Up." "This is the song you will see me moving to. I'm glad it's mine," he said.
Yes, It's True is now available for pre-order on iTunes.
"Hold Yourself Up" by The Polyphonic Spree Lyrics:
Your facedown in the sunlight
She can read your mind
Apologies accepted
Every single timeLike a swarm of bees
She really believes
You've got honey deep inside
She's the hope that knows
She's been there before
She's got roller coaster eyesAnd she says
'Hold yourself up, hold yourself up'
Lead you to your mind
And she says
'Hold yourself up, hold yourself up'
Aim right for the sky
And she saysNa, Na (x5)
There's a meaning in my conscience
I'm headed for the sky
I'm reaching for my confidence
She's always there on timeLike a swarm of bees
She really believes
You've got honey deep inside
She's the hope that knows
She's been there before
She's got roller coaster eyesAnd she says
'Hold yourself up, hold yourself up'
Lead you to your mind
And she says
'Hold yourself up, hold yourself up'
Aim right for the sky
She saysNa, na, na (x8)
Anticipation, the commoditization
This nation is on the ropes
Anticipation, ah, this frustration
This nation has shaken my hopeNa, na (x8)
'Hold yourself up, hold yourself up'
Lead you to your mind
She says
'Hold yourself up, hold yourself up'
Aim right for the sky
And she saysSome say it's her fantasy
They say it's danger
We say our faith may [inaudible]
They say outrageousSome say it's her fantasy
They say it's danger
We say our faith may [inaudible]
They say outrageous
