In the history of popular music, Elton John stands alone as one of the greatest singers, songwriters, and piano players. Last night, the Rocketman rocked Jimmy Kimmel with his classic song "Tiny Dancer" as well as a new song off his Diving Board album, "Home Again" and opened up about his personal life and career in a 3 part interview:
Some of the interesting tidbits discussed were Elton John's sparkling red shoes, his working relationship with Bernie Taupin, his gay relationship, his lack of a phone, his iPad, his kids, his relatively small hands that prevent him from playing guitar, critical reviews, his record buying habits and love of Amoeba in Los Angeles, working in the studio with producer T-Bone Burnett, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and heckling athletes from the stands (of all things)!
The live musical performances were fantastic, as you would expect. He played solo and sounded great. In a world where so many televised performances are pre-recorded, it's refreshing to see someone who can play their instrument at a high level and sing at the same time. Really captivating stuff. His new song "Home Again" is epic, with shades of blues, jazz, showtunes, pop, and rock.
