Indie rockers Surfer Blood have shared "I Can't Explain," the first official single off their upcoming album 1000 Palms due out May 12th. Check it out on SoundCloud above.

After a New Year's show heading into 2014, the band chose to finish out their lease and stay in Portland, OR. During this time, they spent countless hours in a practice room that they rented recording tons of demos, one of which resulting in this very track. Lead vocalist and guitarist, John Paul Pitts reflected on the experience in a statement to Consequence of Sound:

"I Can’t Explain" is one of our most collaborative efforts to date. The hook just came to us one day in the practice space and we wrote the rest of the song around it. The lyrics tell the story of a romantic encounter on a New Year’s Eve past and build slowly with the rest of the song. I’ve always been keen on a long instrumental outro, so this seemed like the perfect spot for a long, jammy guitar section -— a place for us to get some Yo La Tengo / Built to Spill guitar fetishizing out of our system.

The track is lush with guitar and happy melody lines. It's very dreamy in a sense, especially when the lines "I can't explain" and "open your mind" are sung over each other. The overall sound is fantastic and definitely worth a listen.

Purchase 1000 Palms on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3).
