Last night was J. Cole's 29th birthday, and he celebrated by performing at Madison Square Garden, bringing out Jay Z and Kendrick Lamar as special guests. Check out videos of both surprise appearances below.

Jay Z and J. Cole "Public Service Announcement" and "FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt":
Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole "Forbidden Fruit" and "Backseat Freestyle":

Between the two songs that Jay performed, the hip hop elder statesman revealed a very rare birthday present that he had given to Cole: "It's your birthday but that on your neck is my original Roc chain, and it's yours." The gift of the chain, which is customarily given to artists upon signing to Roc-A-Fella Records, was no doubt a huge honor for Cole, who we hear is quite the fan of old-school New York hip hop.

Just before Kendrick came onstage towards the tail end of "Forbidden Fruit," Cole sneaked in a little Kanye West diss. The music cut out, and he said, "Imma drop the album same day as Kanye... Fucked around and sold more albums than Kanye," referring of course, to the ever-divisive Yeezus. West's album had the disadvantage of never being pressed on vinyl (the fastest-growing format of last year), but still, Cole should be proud of his hard-earned commercial laurels. Kendrick, who also showed up at Dom Kennedy's NYC show last night, blazed through "Backseat Freestyle" like his self-appointed "King of New York" crown depended on it.

In other J. Cole news, he and his Dreamville Records labelmates celebrated their recent partnership with Interscope by dropping a mixtape. Revenge of the Dreamers is now available for free on XXL. Head over to Cole's Zumic artist page for more of his music and videos.
