J Mascis INTERVIEW & PERFORMANCE ON NPR WORLD CAFE

SETLIST

J MASCIS NPR WORLD CAFE SETLIST:
"Every Morning"
"Get Me"
"Drifter"
"Heal The Star"

The program kicks off with Mascis performing the single "Every Morning" from his new album. The song starts off with soft vocals and driving acoustic guitar. Then, in true J Mascis fashion, the track quickly turns to a fuzzed-out guitar solo. The rest of the song follows this dynamic, going back and forth between soft and loud.

From there, Mascis treats the listeners to an acoustic version of Dinosaur Jr. hit "Get Me," off their 1993 album, Where You Been. Don't let the stripped-down nature of the performance fool you -- J brings the noise (literally) to the song with some of the grittiest guitar distortion you will ever hear.

The interview begins with Mascis discussing the different approach he takes to writing music for his solo project versus writing for his other projects: "It's interesting just to give myself some limitations to work within."

After a brief discussion about the next song, J performs "Drifter," an instrumental piece from Tied To A Star. The song begins with a bluesy, southern-inspired intro (almost like something you would here on a Civil Wars record), and eventually moves right into his last song, "Heal The Star." The program finishes with Mascis talking about the benefits of being a solo act, both in the studio and on the road.
