Bob Boilen, NPR host of All Songs Considered, sat down with Jack White to discuss his latest solo project, Lazaretto.
In the interview, White mulls over the highs and lows of songwriting, his fiery passion and self-discipline, and channeling his nineteen-year-old spirit. Delving into the inner workings of Jack White the musician, we learn what inspires his broad artistic range and from where he draws his philosophical cues. White admits that, as a teenager, he never believed he would achieve such a level of success, instead presuming his obsessive music-making to be a labor of love. To his surprise he has been involved in several successful projects, selling records and touring all over the world.
The interview features previews from the new album, including pieces of "High Ball Stepper," "Lazaretto," "Temporary Ground," and "Want and Able." Lazaretto is set to be released on June 10th. Pre-order it on Amazon.
