Simply put, it's been too long since Kendrick Lamar has released new music as a solo artist. The features, collaborations, remixes, and other projects have been good, but the hip hop world has been eagerly anticipating a follow-up to 2012's Good Kid, M.A.A.D City. Today, we get a new song called "i" via SoundCloud. Listen above.
The song has a serious '70s vibe, with a beat built on a guitar sample of The Isley Brothers' "That Lady" by producer Rahki. Kendrick goes hard, with uplifting lyrics that show he's overcome the pitfalls of the M.A.A.D City to thrive, even though he's got demons to still deal with -- as we all do. If anyone has the right to say "I love myself" it is definitely Kendrick, as seemingly everyone else in the rap world loves the man (except the idiots who vote for Grammys). Let us know what you think of the song in the comments below.
