In their latest video, Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox take on Major Lazer, DJ Snake, and MØ's 2015 hit "Lean On" in the style of Stevie Wonder. Specifically, the Top-40 tune is set in the vibe of Wonder's "I Wish" from his 1976 classic double-LP, Songs In The Key Of Life.
The arrangement is flawless and so is the performance from Mykal Kilgore, whose vocal chops rival that of classic Stevie. Everything about this video works: the energetic groove, the stylistic authenticity, and the production quality. One of the coolest things about the arrangement is the octave horn solos in place of the vocal sampling on the Major Lazer original.
This unique blend of style and musical epochs has become a trademark for Postmodern Jukebox. Their '70s-inspired cover of "Lean On" in the above video is definitely one for the favorites bar.
The song appeared on the band’s most recent album, Swipe Right For Vintage, which was released in July of 2015. Check it out on Amazon and Spotify.
