Hailing from Madrid, all-female group Hinds have released their debut full-length studio album, Leave Me Alone, via Mom + Pop Records. The LP contains 12 songs covering a brisk 38 minutes.
The band members consist of Carlotta Cosials (vocals, guitar), Ana Perrote (vocals, guitar), Ade Martin (bass), and Amber Grimbergen (drums)
Leave Me Alone is an impressive album featuring lo-fi, indie rock songs with bubble gum pop sensibilities that carry a bite. Tracks like "Fat Calmed Kiddos" and "Warts" highlight the band's skillful knack of creating infectious lead guitar riffs that will get stuck in your head.
In an interview with NME, Carlotta talked about the group's songwriting process:
We want to play the music that we enjoy listening to. When we try to write a sad song we always have it going well for a bit, but then someone will come into the room and we’ll all start jumping around until it turns into a happy song. We can’t help it!
Songs like "Chili Town" and "Bamboo" are breezy, feel-good numbers that sound like a throwback to an earlier time, while "San Diego" and "Walking Home highlight Carlotta and Ana's energized vocals.
Hinds started as a two-piece in 2011, and became a quartet in 2014. The band played the South by Southwest and Best Kept Secret music festivals in 2015, and could break out in a big way this year.
Leave Me Alone is an impressive debut album from these four young ladies. While some songs sound a little rough around the edges, they've got the ingredients for writing catchy garage rock tunes that should mature over age.
Songs we recommend are "Garden," "Fat Calmed Kiddos," "Warts," "Bamboo," and "San Diego."
