Fort Worth singer Leon Bridges performed four songs on an NPR Tiny Desk Concert posted to NPR Music's YouTube channel earlier this week. They kicked off the set with their best-known tune, "Coming Home" before going into the bluesy effervescence of "Smooth Sailin'." The next song, "Twistin' & Groovin'" is a slow-cooker with a King Curtis-inspired sax solo before switching gears to the intimate "River."
While Leon Bridges has been praised by both critics and audience alike, I found this performance to be a bit lukewarm. Nearly everyone in the group seemed to be playing under restraint, and, as a result, never really came close to being a truly palpable experience. This Tiny Desk Concert a much different experience than their 2015 album, Coming Home, but it still worth checking out if you're a Leon Bridges fan.
Bridges recently announced a full US tour and he'll be on the road from the beginning of October to mid-November. Check out Leon Bridges' tour dates to see if he's performing at a venue near you.
