Snail Mail, the indie rock project of Lindsey Jordan, today released another single, "Let's Find an Out," off the forthcoming album Lush, out June 8 via Matador. Listen on YouTube above.

Jordan, a classically trained guitarist who practiced for two hours each day beginning at age five, has demonstrated a level of musical ability on Lush's first two singles — "Pristine" and "Heat Wave" — broader than that of her first EP, Habit.   "Let's Find an Out," however, departs from those singles, featuring light percussion, a perfectly subtle bass line, and a blanket of guitar tracks interweaving underneath Jordan's lofty, contemplative vocals. The song showcases her vast technical skill with beautiful fingerpicking and an unusual, at times jazzy, progression.

On the track, Jordan seems to lament or struggle with her personal aging and growth as compared to that of others around her. She sings, "You’re always coming back a little older, But it looks alright on you." She continues, imploring, "Let's find an out, We'll start anew," like one pleading with a partner while a relationship begins to collapse. The single possesses a churning quality, almost indicating an inevitability to the themes Jordan explores. Clocking in at just over two minutes and only twelve lyrical lines, the song carries an immense emotional weight despite its brevity.

Snail Mail has staked a claim as one of the most promising young acts in indie music.  With singles as powerful and diverse as these, the album promises to be a phenomenally exciting one.  In an interview with Noisey, she described the new album as "a guitar rock record" that is "really shreddy, I'll warn you."

You can listen to "Let's Find an Out" on major streaming services, while Lush is available for preorder on Amazon.
