Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ returns to the show where he made his TV debut. With the musical backing of the Roots, he gave a soulful performance last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Aided by background vocals from BJ The Chicago Kid, he performed "Like Me," a song off his upcoming album B4.Da.$$, which will be released on January 20th.
On the J-Dilla-produced track, Joey touches on police brutality against African-Americans. He raps, "Cause every time I make a move they be sweatin' me / They want another black man in penitentiary / It's even hard for that man standing next to me / Cause he could catch a bullet that was really meant for me." Watch as the 19-year-old expresses his feelings in this jazz-influenced performance.
Pre-order B4.Da.$$ on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) and iTunes.
