Originally released in December of 2018, Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" has become one of the biggest hits of the past year, successfully bringing together hip hop and country with its infectious beat, memorable lyrics, and catchy melody. This week, New Hampshire-based rockers Our Last Night shared their screamo cover of the song. Watch above on YouTube.

Surely a bit of humor is involved when a hard rock band decides to interpret a trap anthem. Screaming verses about ridin' tractors and the horses in the back with all-out emotion, Our Last Night's cover stays true to the original while also displaying an impressive level of musicianship. The verses are screamed, but the memorable chorus is sung, and the melody lends itself well to the rock genre — perhaps unsurprising, knowing the song's history.

"Old Town Road" became a viral hit earlier this year, and rose to its peak fame after a remix with Billy Ray Cyrus came out in April. What many people do not know is that Lil Nas X bought the song's beat for $30 from BeatStars, and the instrumental prominently features a sample of Nine Inch Nails' "Ghosts IV - 34". In a way, "Old Town Road" has made a U-Turn back to its hard rock roots. By putting their spin on it, Our Last Night bring greater awareness of the tune to people who are not fans of pop, hip hop, or country, and help the song's popularity continue to grow.

Our Last Night's music, including many other covers of popular songs, is available on Amazon and major streaming services.
