Cerebral Ballzy are mixing things up for their new record. The Brooklyn punks have just shared the second single from their upcoming LP, Faded & Jaded, and it stands in stark contrast to their previous work, including the first single we heard, "Speed Wobbles."

Unlike the first single, which was a triumphant blast of fiery skatepunk, "Lonely As America" sees a more melodic approach, with minor chords and reverb-soaked vocals, reminiscent of hardcore 20 years ago on the opposite coast. The song is still strong punk rock, but forgoes the surface-level party lyrics for something a bit more introspective. Listen above.

The change is style is intentional, though. In addition to the band's natural change in tone, the new record was produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek. Frontman Honor Titus explained to Rolling Stone:

He understood our trajectory and our melodic intent, which was no easy feat. We're going for this punky abrasive sound done with such a casual melody.

He went on about the the song itself:

"Lonely as America" is about the vapid existence that so many of us fall into, shrouded under the guise of everyday life. This respective track is a bit more subdued and melodic. Something no one would expect from our initial effort.

Jaded & Faded will be out on Cult Records June 17th. Listen to "Speed Wobbles" right here at Zumic, and for more music and news, check out Cerebral Ballzy's Zumic artist page.

Cerebral Ballzy "Lonely As America" Lyrics:

No need to see
This road again
Faced with another
Dead end
One day I'll see
That face again in
The end

Making a living
From convenience
Losing touch
With the world
All of consequence
No matter how much
Money we hold or spend
We all must come to an end

They can't digitize
That look in your eyes
They will come to find
That my mind
Is mine all mine
It's mine all mine

They can't synthesize the way I feel inside
Will they realize
The times we
Tried and tried
Tried and tried

No need to believe
What's told again
It gets so old
To pretend
One day I'll
Leave my place
Again
There's no end

They can't digitize
That look in your eyes
They will come to find
That my mind
Is mine all mine
It's mine all mine

Making a living
From convenience
Losing touch
With the world
All of consequence
No matter how much
Money we hold or spend
We all must come to an end
