Last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The New Basement Tapes made their television debut to perform "Lost On the River," the title track from their new release. You can watch their heartfelt performance above.
The supergroup, which is comprised of Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens, Taylor Goldsmith, Jim James, and Marcus Mumford, came together with producer T Bone Burnett to put music to lyrics Bob Dylan wrote in 1967. The melancholy tune is led by Elvis Costello's soft guitar strumming combined with soothing vocals. A strong rhythmic foundation, with Jim James on bass, keeps the vibe relaxed. Violinist Rhiannon Giddens supports Elvis' vocals with sympathetic playing. Lyrics like "I got lost on the river but I got found" are sung with passion and exemplify Dylan's talent with words.
