On February 12th, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band opened their show in Adelaide, Austrailia with a cover of Martha and the Vandellas' "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave," which he decided to perform because it was over one hundred degrees the night of the show. Now, an official video of the performance can be seen above.
For the song, Springsteen is backed by a group of backup singers and an entire brass section, with saxophonist Eddie Manion playing a solo. The cover is pretty straightforward with Springsteen's rough voice lending itself perfectly to the tune, which was originally written for a female lead. He changes the lyrics "whenever I'm with him" to "whenever I'm with you." The performance is great, but why is guitarist Stevie Van Zandt wearing a scarf when it's so hot?
