Up-and-coming English psych-rock outfit Temples have just released a jaw-dropping animated video for their most recent single, "Mesmerise." Beginning with a Kubrickian obelisk looming over a desert labyrinth, and starring, as protagonist, a bizarrely iridescent floating pyramid, the video actually only gets weirder as it progresses. Director Benjael Halfmaderholz keeps things charmingly quaint and childlike, while at the same time managing to evoke a profound sense of immensity and wonder.

But of course, it's still the music that steals the show. "Mesmerise" is an unstoppable beast of an earworm; the harmonies are infectious, the bass is booming and propulsive, the riffs are just the right amount of prog, and it's all anchored by a backbeat that would make Mr. Starkey proud. It's not for nothing that Noel Gallagher and Johnny Marr called Temples the "best new band in Britain."

Temples' debut album, Sun Structures is out Feb 10th on Heavenly Recordings. You can pre-order it at The Heavenly Emporium.
