Metallica to Release "Through the Never" Soundtrack Album

We know that metal legends Metallica have a new 3D film coming out in September - read our articles about Metallica: Through the Never, complete with trailers and interviews, here and here in case you need to refresh your memory. But now the band has announced a new album to go along with the theatrical release: Metallica Through the Never (Music from the Motion Picture) will be released on September 24th, only three days before the film hits IMAX. A week later, on October 4th, the movie will be in traditional theaters as well.

In a statement released on Monday, drummer Lars Ulrich enthused:

Let's hear it for the old school soundtrack! Not only are we beyond psyched about our movie coming your way shortly, but the fact that we get to share the music directly in all these formats is way fuckin' cool.

The new soundtrack, which is being released on the band's own Blackened Recordings label, will feature 15 songs Metallica recorded live in Edmonton and Vancouver last August when the band filmed their performance shots for the movie. These new live tracks include performances of songs spanning their career, from "Hit the Lights" to "Master of Puppets" to "Cyanide."

Metallica's Through the Never album will come as a physical release of two discs, which can already be pre-ordered on the band's official website. The album is also available for pre-order on iTunes now. Additionally, later this fall the soundtrack will be available on vinyl, both in 33 1/3 RPM as well as in limited, numbered deluxe 45 RPM records. Expect release dates for the vinyl LPs later this year.
