Metallica's new 3D film Through The Never took a major hit at the US box office in the three weeks since its release. As of October 13th, the film grossed just $3.2 million, nearly $15 million short of its $18 million budget.
Through The Never debuted at #14 nationwide on September 27th and earned approximately $1.6 million on its opening weekend. Unfortunately, the subsequent weekends failed to see any increase in revenue.
According to Metalsucks, the unknown promotional budget is likely to equal or exceed the $18 million production budget, meaning that the losses may actually be over $30 million, although that doesn't take into account foreign markets or any soundtrack or video sales.
This news comes as a surprise, as Metallica's film did have the Colbert bump. Perhaps they should have called the film Under The Sometimes.
