Mistah F.A.B. went on Sway in the Morning yesterday and took on their Five Fingers of Death freestyle challenge. Because F.A.B. is notorious for his freestyle skills, DJ Wonder gave him some challenging instrumentals, including Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car." Before the freestyle kicked off, Sway Calloway warned his fellow Oaklander that they were going to attempt to throw him off with tough beat changes. Mistah F.A.B. responded to Sway with a confident smirk, saying, "I'm pretty dope, man." Over the next 5 minutes, he would prove that to be a vast understatement.

In recent years, freestyling has become a loose term. Many rappers "freestyle" on radio shows, reciting pre-written lyrics that later show up on their songs. Some emcees don't even have the courtesy to hide it, whipping out their smartphones phones and reading verses. Mistah F.A.B. leaves no doubt as to whether his freestyles are genuine by mentioning a variety of recent news events. Some of his references yesterday included the Israel-Palestine conflict, the Chibok schoolgirls' kidnapping in Nigeria, Yoenis Céspedes' Home Run Derby victory, and Germany's victory over Argentina in the World Cup Final. It is some spectacle watching him create so many clever lines on the spot.

During the freestyle, F.A.B. briefly alluded to his beefs with hit producer DJ Mustard and battle rapper Arsonal, but provided little clarity on either situation. Mistah F.A.B. got in a scuffle with Mustard on June 8th, after accusing him of replicating the traditional Bay Area sound in his beats. F.A.B. also challenged Arsonal to a $15,000 rap battle last year on Power 105.

This is the second time Mistah F.A.B. has rapped on Sway in the Morning. Last August, he did an absolutely dominant freestyle on the radio show. Which freestyle do you think was better?
