Indie folk duo Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan, better known as The Milk Carton Kids, have released their fifth album, titled Monterey. This release is the follow-up to their Grammy-nominated 2013 album, Ash & Clay. Monterey was recorded during soundchecks before their concerts at various venues across the country, giving the songs an intimate and personal feel.
The album is an impressive display of the duo's ability to blend acoustic ballads with tight harmonies, reminiscent of the classic pairing of Simon & Garfunkel. Warm vocals, ranging in topics from politics on "Freedom" to personal reflection on "Shooting Shadows," cascade over gently picked guitars.
