The Milk Carton Kids are set to release the follow-up to their Grammy-nominated 2013 album Ash & Clay. Titled Monterey, the album is due out May 19, 2015 on ANTI- Records. Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan uploaded the title track along with a tongue-in-cheek announcement video to share the news.
The folk duo recorded Monterey in an unconventional manner. Instead of entering a studio, the songs were recorded on the road in venues across the country. The Milk Carton Kids would cut the tracks before or after their concerts, yielding eleven new songs of their melodic folk music.
The new track, "Monterey," is a slow, acoustic ballad with lyrics of traveling. "I can hear the road call out my name," the duo sings before speaking about the sky, stars, and clouds. It's a very relaxing single ahead of an album that will likely fall along those lines.
