After her huge summer successes with "Fancy" and "Boom Clap," Charli XCX has released her latest single, "Break The Rules." The song will appear on her upcoming sophomore album, Sucker, which is set to be released October 21 via Neon Gold / Atlantic Records.

The song title speaks for itself, but if you need further clarification, here it is: In a recent interview, Charli XCX told Buzzfeed that this song was a result of her short time making punk music, and expresses her lack of caring.

The song is inspired by a lot of the things I was listening to whilst in Sweden at the end of last year. I spent about a month making a punk record and covering songs by Swedish punk bands like Snuffed By The Yakuza and stuff. This song was written when I came out of the other side of that punk phase and translated it into something more pop. Obviously, it’s about not giving a fuck.

There is definitely a rock / pop sound to this track which matches the lyrical content about being a rebellious teenager. Also notable: The song’s defiant attitude paired with the bass guitar melody has a similar feel to Blur’s 1997 smash hit, “Song 2.”

In a recent tweet, Charli XCX spilled to fans that she had recently finished shooting a new video. Given the timing, hopefully it's for "Break The Rules." I can only imagine what the video is going to be like, so stay tuned to Charli XCX's Zumic artist page to find out.
