Ariana Grande is proving to be quite the powerhouse pop vocalist. Her debut album, Yours Truly, debuted at #1 on the charts in 2013. Her follow-up, My Everything, came out this week and is expected to also debut #1 on the charts when those numbers are announced next week.

Leading up to the album, "Problem" (featuring Iggy Azalea and Big Sean) and "Break Free" (featuring Zedd) have already been big hit singles with big music videos. "Bang Bang" with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj is another hit song, which hasn't gotten an official music video yet and is only available on the deluxe version of My Everything.

The 21 year old former Disney star is growing up and leaning more and more toward modern hip hop production, with electronic beats and guests including the aforementioned Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, and Big Sean, as well as Childish Gambino, The Weeknd, and A$AP Ferg. An army of producers and writers were also involved, including Zedd, Max Martin, Shellback, Ilya Savan, Kotecha, Benny Blanco, Scooter Braun, Ryan Tedder, Key Wane, Tommy Brown, Harmony Samuels, Darkchild, Pop & Oak, Wendy Goldstein, and Cashmere Cat.

There are lots of samples and references to older songs, and for the most part they sound really good. The greatest weakness in the album might be that it's over-produced and there are so many producers involved that it's more of a collection of singles than a cohesive album. Listening to the album through is a constant barrage of sound, with very little space or soft spots to break things up. The transitions between songs are generally not smooth, which gets tiring to listen to and kills any sense of momentum. Even so, the good singles are strong enough to make this album an overall success. There are a lot of great moments, and fans of the young songstress should enjoy this sophomore outing.

Order My Everything on Amazon. You can also stream the full album above, via Spotify.
