The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas' side project, The Voidz, have a new track entitled "Human Sadness." Listen above.
The eleven-minute-long track opens softly before an infectious bassline kicks in. There's a lot going on here, including layers of textured sounds and studio effects. At the 2:40 mark, there's a noisy disturbance that gives way to a deliciously decadent guitar solo. Halfway through, it gets very technical and EDM-influenced, with Casablancas wailing way above his usual register. We dive back into another guitar solo, over powerful drums and electronic additives, before Casablancas brings us back down to earth with an emotional vocal performance bit. It's the "Bohemian Rhapsody" type of journey that starts off slowly, explodes with intensity, and reverts back to a dreamy drop-off. Pack your bags 'cause you're about to take a trip.
"Human Sadness" will be featured on their upcoming debut album, Tyranny, out September 23rd on Julian's own Cult Records. Pre-order it on Amazon. Watch the album teaser here on Zumic.
