Irish folk musician Damien Rice has released a new song and announced his first studio album since 2006. Above, you can listen to the album's title track, "My Favourite Faded Fantasy."
The song is a roller coaster of instruments and vocals that come together and fall apart at various times. As Damien's voice travels from a whisper to a yell, background strings and drums hold a steady foundation for the other instruments to crash into. Upright bass and reflective piano give the song an emotional warmth while the lyrics struggle with the topic of heartbreak. It's a powerfully emotional song that shows this album could become a fan favorite.
On the decision to have Rick Rubin produce the album, Damien Rice said:
I came to Rick mostly based on what I didn’t know about him, rather than what I did. For some reason I just had a feeling that I would feel comfortable being open and being me and being vulnerable with Rick.
My Favourite Faded Fantasy will be available beginning October 31 through Warner Bros Records. Pre-orders are available via iTunes and the Warner Music Store. For the latest Damien Rice music, news, and tour info, check out his Zumic Artist Page.
