The Foo Fighters have a new album coming out November 10th called Sonic Highways and an HBO series of the same name that's set to premiere tomorrow night on HBO. Today the band revealed the first full song, "Something From Nothing," on radio around the world and now it's also available on Spotify. Listen above.

Every song on the new album has been recorded in a different American city at a historically significant studio, with a local guest musician. "Something From Nothing" was recorded in Chicago at producer / engineer Steve Albini's studio, Electrical Audio. The guest is guitarist Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick. The lyrics also have allusions to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

Musically, this song rocks really freaking hard. It opens pretty soft, sounding a bit like one of the best rock tunes of 2013: Queens of the Stone Age's "If I Had A Tail." The guitar attack is fully locked and loaded, as layer upon layer build and then subside over nearly 5 minutes, with plenty of interesting changes that lead up to a very cool full throttle jam at the end. There's also some funky keys in there, and Taylor Hawkins drumming fuses old-school R&B with amped up progressive rock in a way that sounds effortless. The toms and kick drum are super heavy, laying an excellent foundation for the guitars and those signature Dave Grohl vocals.

Order the Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways on Amazon as CD, MP3, or vinyl.
