London indie-pop band Allo Darlin' released their third full length album, We Come From The Same Place, on October 7th on Slumberland Records. You can listen to it in its entirety via Spotify above.

With We Come From The Same Place, Allo Darlin' have created a deeply relatable and earnest record. It is full of bright, shimmery pop sensibilities balanced wonderfully with vocalist Elizabeth Morris' introspective, detailed lyrics. Morris is a student of '90s British indie pop, having previously been in Tender Trap with Amelia Fletcher of highly influential twee pop band Heavenly. Influences of bands of that era and their followers, like Belle & Sebastian and Camera Obscura shine through on this record.

Morris' lyrics and the emotion behind them are what make this album truly stand up. Her songs do a great job using setting and place and connecting it to her own personal feelings. Whether she is singing about playing in dusty bars throughout London in "Kings and Queens" or feeling like she doesn't belong in her new home in "Santa Maria Novella," she presents everything in an honest and sincere manner. With this style, the band succeeds in creating an intimate charm that resonates throughout the record.

Elizabeth Morris talked to Stereogum about her lyrics:

The songs are autobiographical, but everyone I know who writes music, they are writing from their own perspective, even though they might be making up some characters and invent scenarios. But you always recognize traces of real events and reality in these songs. And that’s part of the fun of writing songs is the imaginary and the real get all mixed up. Hopefully there’s a truth, probably in the chorus, that it doesn’t matter if it’s real or imagined event, it’s what is behind the song, the truth, the message you’re trying to get across, and it’s hopefully something people can relate to.

We Come From The Same Place is out now and currently available on Amazon and Bandcamp.
