Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds are flying high once again. Watch their gorgeous new music video for "In The Heat Of The Moment" (not to be confused with the Asia song of the same name) above, via YouTube.
"In The Heat Of The Moment" is an adrenaline rush of a rocker, with a vocal refrain that might be annoying if it didn't sound vaguely Beatles-esque. The former Oasis guitar player hasn't lost that magic that turned out so many '90s hits, and one of my favorite songs of 2011, "AKA... What a Life!" All the layers of sound blend in perfect harmony, from the vocals to the guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards.
Beginning with a loose intro with an errant guitar noise, directions for the engineer, and then a count-off, there's a sense of raw rock and roll. There's also a real polished sense to sound, with a very tight groove and bell chimes that call back to the years past. The video, directed by Ollie Murray and produced by Jamie Clark, matches the music well as we see the band playing their instruments in a big space lit up with strong colors and shadows. There's lots of little effects that give that same polished sense, and a sense of precisely controlled distortion.
Gallagher's upcoming album, Chasing Yesterday, is the first to be produced as well as written by Noel. It's currently set for release on March 2, 2015 on Sour Mash Records. Order it on Amazon and iTunes,
