The Foo Fighters have shared the song "In The Clear" from their new record and show of the same name, Sonic Highways. Watch the YouTube video above.
This is a collaboration between the Foo and New Orleans' Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Even though the episode hasn't aired yet, you know the song refers to Hurricane Katrina with lyrics such as "And if I should drown / May this be the sound / To wash me out." The hard rock tone gives an emotionally intense and powerful tribute to The Big Easy.
By itself, the track is a solid Foo Fighters hit, yet it falls short when compared the song's concept. When thinking about The Foo Fighters collaborating with a jazz ensemble, one could only imagine what kind of colorful music would come out of it. Although it's cool to hear the horns play along with the guitar in parts of the song, you are left wanting to hear more of the regional influence. Sonic Highways continues this Friday on HBO. Check local listings.
Sonic Highways the album is available now on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) and iTunes.
