Last night, Metallica began their week-long residency on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. The band chose to kick off the affair with "Hit the Lights," which is the first song from their 1983 debut album, Kill 'Em All. You can watch the band shred above via YouTube.

Metallica still give 110% when they play, as evidenced in the clip. Drummer Lars Ulrich starts with skillful drum rolls before James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo join in. Their collective energy explodes as they rip through the thrash song. Hetfield's vocals aren't as high pitched as they once were, but they still contain that edgy attitude. Kirk is one of metal's greatest guitarists, and he displays that with lightning fast solos on his ESP KH-2 "The Mummy" guitar. "Hit the Lights" is one of Metallica's oldest songs, but this performance demonstrates that the band still loves to play it.

You can watch the full episode, including an interview with Metallica and Craig Ferguson at the 20-minute mark, by going to the CBS official website.
