Bruce Springsteen "I Hung My Head" (Sting cover) at 2014 Kennedy Center Honors
Bruno Mars "So Lonely / Message in a Bottle" (The Police cover) at 2014 Kennedy Center Honors
After an introduction from Meryl Streep, they show a video summarizing Sting's life and accomplishments. Then the performances began.
Sitting at a piano, a silver covered Lady Gaga exclaims, "Let's make this one sting!" before going into Sting's 1993 tune, "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You." Gaga gives a high energy performance that finds her supported by a small brass ensemble. Midway through, she brings the song's energy down while a teary-eyed Sting watches on. Gaga kicks the energy back up to finish the song on a positive note.
"The Boss" came out to a loud applause before performing a solid version of Sting's 1996 song, "I Hung My Head." Bruce displays great poise with his singing before going into a brief, rocking solo. A choir joins the guitarist to give the song a strong finish.
Strapped with an electric guitar, Bruno Mars came out and performed a brief rendition of "So Lonely" before shedding the instrument in favor of a microphone. Bruno led an energized version of "Message in a Bottle," by displaying his skillful vocals. Towards the end, people and musicians gathered onstage to help close out the song, and the camera shows a very touched Sting.
