Death Cab For Cutie have released their second track from the upcoming album Kintsugi, due March 31st. The song won't shatter your expectations of what Death Cab For Cutie does musically, but it is certainly a pleasant listen.
A bouncy tempo and airy melody provide the background to Ben Gibbard's melancholy lyrics, which seem to be a thinly veiled account of his relationship with actress Zooey Deschanel. It's sad stuff as Gibbard croons, "Was I in your way when the cameras turn to face you? No room in frame for two." The two divorced in December 2012, giving Gibbard a slew of sad things to write about. Kintsugi is the Japanese word for the art of fixing broken pottery.
Kintsugi is available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, Cassette, MP3). Check out the first single, "Black Sun," here on Zumic.
