Taking their New Orleans show on the road, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band stopped by KEXP in Seattle for a nice long performance and interview on The Roadhouse with Greg Vandy. Check it out above on YouTube.
Kicking off with the Professor Longhair classic "Go To The Mardi Gras," the band are in fine form. This is followed by three songs from the band's 2014 album, That's It!, as the band keep the energy going strong playing "Come With Me." During the first interview segment, Ben Jaffe talks about Jazzfest and jamming with Flavor Flav (among other things).
After the first interview segment, the band slow things down a bit with "I Think I Love You," giving all the musicians an opportunity to strut their stuff. During another interview section talking about their 50th anniversary and the Preservation record they made with a bunch of incredible guests including Tom Waits, Steve Earle, Pete Seeger, Dr. John, Jim James, and Del McCoury. They also talk about New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina, and Ben Jaffe shares a soulful perspective on what's happening in the city these days. They proceed close things out with a gorgeous and somber "Yellow Moon."
That's It! is available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD).
