The Tedeschi Trucks Band have just hit the road with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Doyle Bramhall II for The Wheels Of Soul summer tour. Recently, they stopped by the Spotify offices in NYC with Sharon and Doyle to record an intimate jam session in front of a live audience. You can listen to their Spotify Sessions set above.
After a brief introduction, the Tedeschi Trucks Band kick things off with a soulful version of the Elmore James blues classic, "The Sky Is Crying." Exceptional guitar playing from Derek and Doyle shine as Susan delivers an impressive vocal performance.
When asked what they were looking forward to on the upcoming tour, Sharon and Susan jokingly remark, "Getting up on stage and doing what we do." Sharon then takes the mic to perform her band's 2010 high energy song, "She Ain't A Child No More." She's then joined by Susan to give the audience some R&B flavor with their version of Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home to Me." Slide guitar playing from Trucks is partnered with skillful guitar riffs from Doyle to give the song a new flavor.
Susan and Sharon share laughs with each other and the audience before treating the crowd to another soulful cover, "Tell Mama," which was written by Clarence Carter and popularized by Etta James and later Janis Joplin. It's a high energy performance where Derek and Doyle once again shine while Susan and Sharon feed off each other's energy. Although it's a short set, those in the audience got treated to some great music!
