In a rather surprising move, Wilco have unexpectedly shared a new studio album with their fans. Titled Star Wars, it's the band's ninth studio album and features eleven original songs spanning 33 minutes.
The album was released as a free download for a limited time on wilcoworld.net. Jeff Tweedy considers this gift to the fans as "a jolt of joy: a fun surprise."
Loose, experimental, and psychedelic are some words that describe the songs found on the album. Fuzz drenched guitars combine with driving rhythms in songs like "You Satellite." "Taste the Ceiling" showcases Tweedy's breezy vocals backed by acoustic strumming. One of the album's strongest tracks is "Cold Slope," with its shifting rhythm dynamics and attitude filled guitar riffs. Closing out the album is the moody "Magnetized" which draws its strength from Tweedy's vocals over gentle piano notes and hazy guitar.
