Pokey LaFarge's unique musical stylings are in full effect on his seventh album, Something In The Water. His blend of ragtime, Dixieland jazz, folk, and Americana is unlike most modern music. While LaFarge's musical roots are based in the songs of yesteryear, Something In The Water is an album that feels jovial and fun to listen to. Songs such as "Act a Fool" and "Cairo, Illinois" feel particularly lighthearted and vivacious.

Although portions of the album lack creativity in the lyrics / songwriting department, the production on the album gives the songs an appropriate vintage feel. The ballad "When Did You Leave Heaven" is a highlight. Another notable song is the opening title track, "Something In The Water," which masterfully combines everything that Pokey LaFarge stands for. Despite a few speed bumps, Something In The Water will go down as an overall successful album.

Something In The Water is available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3). You can also stream the full album above, via Spotify.
