“Stories” – Avicii [Official Full Album Stream + Zumic Review]

ZUMIC RATING:
Released: October 2nd, 2015

Last week, Swedish house DJ Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) released Stories, his second studio album. Avicii produced the album with the help of many contributors, including Salem Al Fakir, Alex Ebert, Carl Falk, Kristoffer Fogelmark, Martin Garrix, Dhani Lennevald, Ash Pournouri, Albin Nedler, and Vincent Pontare.

The 14-track, 54-minute album features a handful of guest vocalists. The quirky thing is that they’re all uncredited, and at this point it isn’t clear who the vocalist is on some tracks. Here are the people we know from previously released singles:

Waiting For Love” — Simon Aldred of Cherry Ghost
For a Better Day” – Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Pure Grinding” — Kristoffer Fogelmark, Albin Nedler and Earl Johnson
Broken Arrows” — Zac Brown
True Believer” — Tim Bergling and Chris Martin
Can’t Catch Me” — Wyclef Jean and Matisyahu
Gonna Love Ya” — Sandro Cavazza

Stories finds the DJ infusing EDM with mixtures of disco, house, synth pop, latin, reggae, soul, country, and acoustic styles over driving beats. What makes this album refreshing is that each song is unique, thereby not allowing Stories to sound tiresome or repetitive. The varied styles offer people a lot choose from.

Tracks like “True Believer” and “City Lights” are dance driven tunes sure to get the adrenaline pumping and satisfy fans of EDM / house. Each song combines worldly influences that combine and segue with clever builds and drops. On Stories, Avicii shows he’s a master at mixing multicultural genres into a cohesive dance-friendly LP. The only complaint may be that there isn’t a mega-hit radio-friendly song like “Levels,” “Wake Me Up,” or “Hey Brother.”

Track we recommend: “Waiting For Love,” “Talk To Myself,” “Touch Me,” “Ten More Days,” “For A Better Day,” “Broken Arrows,” “True Believer,” “Pure Grinding,” “Can’t Catch Me,” “Somewhere In Stockholm,” “Trouble,” and “Gonna Love Ya.”

Stories is currently available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3). You can also stream the full album for free above, via Spotify.
