This past summer, hordes of Grateful Dead fans made their way to Chicago, Illinois over the Fourth of July weekend to be a part of the The Grateful Dead's 50th anniversary Fare Thee Well concerts. Above, you can watch the magic that went down when the band played "China Cat Sunflower" into "I Know You Rider."
What better way to kick off the final night of the three concert run than with this nearly 15 minute version of "China Cat > Rider"! Trey Anastasio and Bruce Hornsby trade the vocals for "China Cat Sunflower" before Bob Weir joins in. Hornsby and Jeff Chimenti add colorful piano and organ playing underneath Weir's playing, and Trey lends a smooth, crisp solo.
Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart make sure the transition into "I Know You Rider" goes smoothly. The crowd joyously throw their hands up in the air and sing along with the band. If you were at the concert, keep your eyes open to see if you can spot yourself, as there's some great crowd footage.
Previously, the band shared high energy versions of "Truckin'" and "West L.A. Fadeaway."

The Grateful Dead recently released an 80 CD box set titled 30 Trips Around the Sun: The Definitive Years (1965-1995), containing over 73 hours of music from the dead’s 30 year career, and including one previously unreleased live concert from each year.
