Radiohead have a brand new song called "Daydreaming" which was released with an accompanying music video directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. With the release, we've learned that the band's next album will be released digitally on May 8, 2016 at 7pm BST.

Watch above, as we see frontman Thom Yorke looking quite ragged as he embarks on a psychedelic journey through a multitude of doors and environments. The visual element makes me think of Aldous Huxley's famous psychedelic treatise The Doors of Perception, which concludes:

For Angels of a lower order and with better prospects of longevity, there must be a return to the straw. But the man who comes back through the Door in the Wall will never be quite the same as the man who went out. He will be wiser but less cocksure, happier but less self-satisfied, humbler in acknowledging his ignorance yet better equipped to understand the relationship of words to things, of systematic reasoning to the unfathomable Mystery which it tries, forever vainly, to comprehend.

The song "Daydreaming" is pretty spare, with a repeated piano arpeggio as the main focal point. There are subtle sounds of electric instruments and various chimes, but no drums whatsoever. About halfway through, the bass brings some nice warmth to the tune as the music creates a feeling of euphoria, and toward the end of the track the element of strings pushes things even further.

Earlier this week, Radiohead shared a music video for "Burn The Witch." Based on these first two songs, Radiohead's 2016 album is sounding a bit like a return to the sound of their 2001 album Amnesiac, but perhaps darker and less melodic.
