Iconic singer-songwriter Paul Simon has just released another track off his 2016 album Stranger to Stranger, titled "The Werewolf." At 74-years-old, Simon still manages to leave a footprint in the music world by making unique tunes like this. Listen above.
"The Werewolf" of course has Simon's original folk-pop flare. However, he is experimenting with songwriting and production, which is quite noticeable in his other released tracks "Cool Papa Bell" and "Wristband." As we listen, we hear a tribal-like beat and some unusual noises. At the end, there are wolves howling, characters speaking indistinctly, and then an organ being played.
In an interview by Drowned In Sound, Simon confirmed the interviewer's question about putting more of an emphasis on sound than lyrics.
Yes, I guess. But not in the sense that I set out and said: Well, the next album that I’m going to do will be about sound and rhythm. But that’s what it became, pretty quickly. Not that I don’t spend a lot of time on the lyrics – I do – but thematically, the music and the sound are more of a unit than the lyrics are.
Stranger to Stranger is scheduled for release on June 3, 2016. Pick it up on Amazon.
