Blink-182 released the music video for "Bored To Death" on June 20, 2016. It is the lead single off of their upcoming seventh studio album, California. It is their first song, music video, and album without founding member Tom DeLonge, who departed from the band in early 2015. Since DeLonge's departure, the group has recruited Alkaline Trio vocalist / guitarist Matt Skiba to fill his place.
The video shows scenes that change between the band performing at a club for a crowd of fans and a high school student who daydreams about causing mischief and inevitably ends up at the Blink-182 concert instead of literally being "bored to death" in class. It lacks the sense of comedy that Blink-182's most well known videos have had, such as "All the Small Things" and "Dammit," but it still has the teenage angst feel that they have kept alive into their 40s.
The song itself has the elements of pop with the fast paced nature of punk music, a sound Blink-182 has mastered. The difference between Mark Hoppus and Matt Skiba's voices is not as identifiable as the contrast between Hoppus and Tom DeLonge's signature sound, but it is evident that Blink-182 can carry on without DeLonge and still put out good pop punk music.
California is available everywhere July 1, 2016. You can get it on Amazon.
