Watch Sara propose to complete strangers in Tegan and Sara's new music video for "BWU." The song is the fourth single from the Quin sisters' eighth studio album, Love You To Death, which was released on June 3, 2016.

The song opens up with the line, "I love you / I don't need a ring to prove that you're worthy," which is accompanied by a clip from the music video of a woman denying Sara's marriage proposal. The singer then continues to wander around the town for a suitor with an empty ring box. Sara Quin discussed the feelings that inspired "BWU" in a statement from Entertainment Weekly:

Sure, I didn’t care about weddings, but there were plenty of generations behind and before me that did. The activist in me fought passionately for marriage equality because of what it signified socially, and for the countless legal benefits and protections that had been withheld from so many devoted same sex couples in history. I was happy when the Supreme Court ruling legalized same sex marriage in the USA, but I was also relieved that I could finally "come out" as a person who actively dislikes the institution. Specifically the assumption that by not participating in the ritual you are a deviant or unlikely to share the same common values as someone who does.

In contrast to the song's powerful message, "BWU" still contains the bouncy synth pop beat that Tegan and Sara are well-known for. Other singles from Love You To Death include "Boyfriend," "100x," and "U-Turn." Purchase the full album on Amazon.
