25 years ago, A Tribe Called Quest dropped The Low End Theory, their landmark sophomore LP. This week, Power 106's VinRican hit the decks to showcase many of the records which the group sampled to create the album. Ali Shaheed Muhammad drops in to do a quick introduction and they pay tribute to Phife Dawg who passed away earlier this year, which is pretty cool.
Spinning vinyl like the classic Axis: Bold as Love by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Buhaina by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, and Tales of Kidd Funkadelic by Funkadelic, VinRican demonstrates the great variety of music that went into The Low End Theory's jazzy beats. Last year, VinRican did a similarly awesome video breaking down the samples of Tribe's Midnight Marauders.
