The Roots are hosting a new 4th of July tradition, serving as the house band for some of the biggest names in pop music.

The 2013 lineup boasted their Philly soul sister Jill Scott, Vermont's first lady of rock Grace Potter, another Philadelphian DJ Jazzy Jeff, country wunderkind Hunter Hayes, rising hip-hop star J. Cole, John Mayer gearing up for his first tour in 3 years, and Ne-Yo from Camden, Arkansas by way of Las Vegas. It was an eclectic group of legitimate stars and a really entertaining show which far exceeded the usual lip-sync you see on VH1 that makes you want to vomit.

The fireworks section was shown on live TV, but cut out of the online full video. It was awesome. The pre-recorded album version of "The Fire" by The Roots was a really good opening song to the fireworks display.
