Long Island's Brand New have released their fifth studio LP, Science Fiction. If the rumors pointing to a possible 2018 break up are true, Science Fiction is indeed a must-have album for fans.

The 12-track record, produced by Mike Sapone, is Brand New's first studio release since 2009's Daisy. It was mailed to fans as an hour-long CD track before becoming available for purchase on the group's webstore. Band members include Jesse Lacey (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Vincent Accardi (lead guitar, backing vocals), Garrett Tierney (bass), and Brian Lane (drums).

Since their 2001 debut album, Your Favorite Weapon, Brand New has been a force in the indie rock world, acquiring a legion of die-hard fans. 16 years later, the original four members have remained together, and Science Fiction shows that the creative juices are still flowing.

The album is built on a foundation of passionate lyrics and carefully executed guitar riffs. Songs like "Lit Me Up," "137," and "No Control" swell with distorted guitars. "Can't Get It Out" features driving bass lines and explosive choruses, reminiscent of 2003's Deja Entendu.

Word of the band breaking up started to circulate two years ago, and Jesse Lacey reaffirmed the rumor during a concert in 2016. Science Fiction is a strong LP that grabs the listener with its lyrical honesty and stylistic range.

Tracks we recommend are "Lit Me Up," "Can't Get It Out," "Same Logic / Teeth," "137," and "No Control."

Pick up Science Fiction on Amazon. You can also stream the full album above, via Spotify.

The band has also announced 2017 North America tour dates that are scheduled to begin on October 15 in Michigan. For concert tickets and more, check out Brand New's Zumic artist page.
