Darkside Full Set at Pitchfork Music Festival Paris 10.31.2013 [YouTube Video]

Darkside, the electronic jam duo consisting of Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington, performed a 47 minute live set at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris, France on October 31st of this year. The full video has been uploaded to YouTube by Pitchfork in conjunction with La Blogotheque. The video was directed by Benoit Toulemonde and mixed by Guillaume de la Villeon and Jean-Baptiste Aubonnet, according to the credits at the end.

Musically, Darkside is making very special and very psychedelic music. Their debut album Psychic was one of 2013's most exciting recordings, featuring electronic elements combined with organic keyboards and bluesy guitar. You can hear Daft Punk and Pink Floyd in Darkside's music, which is a very interesting combination. "Paper Trails" is a highlight from the album that seems to take on new shapes and feelings every time it's played. This version seems to segue into a sped up version of the album's opening track, "Golden Arrow"

The set is highly entertaining. Unfortunately, the camerawork doesn't show much of what the musicians are doing on stage. There's something to be said about the dark and mysterious vibe and it's difficult to shoot video without good lighting, but some of the video editing is annoying and difficult to watch. Someone seemingly went overboard with some of their visual effects. Thankfully, the sonic quality is excellent. Very crisp and clean, it actually sounds like it's at a higher fidelity than the Psychic album.
