New Jersey indie rockers Real Estate took to the studios on WNYC's Soundcheck to discuss their new album Atlas, due out in early March. Along the way they performed live cuts of three songs from Atlas, lead single "Talking Backwards," and two brand new songs "The Bend" and "April's Song."

"Talking Backwards," the featured song in Real Estate's newest music video, reminds listeners of the carefree, Jersey surf rock sound that made waves on their 2011 LP Days. "The Bend" is a slower jam, focused even further on the catchy guitar work. "April's Song" is the album's instrumental track, faster paced and poppier than Days' "Kinder Blumen" and their self-titled debut's "Pool Swimmers," the instrumental tracks of their previous releases.

In between sets, lead singer Martin Courtney talked to Soundcheck's John Schaefer about the production process and the addition of two more members to the band, rounding out the lineup to a neat quintet. As for Atlas Courtney is interested in how the shift towards a darker tone on some songs will resonate with fans, who seem to consider most of Real Estate's work to be "summery" music.

"I feel like people say that about us, that our music is kinda sunny and summery and, you know, both of our previous records came out in the fall, this record's coming out in the winter... I think our sound spans all seasons. But I do think, yeah, there are some darker songs on this record for sure."

Atlas is set to drop on March 4th. You can pre-order the album on iTunes and get an instant download of "Talking Backwards." For news, music and more, check out Real Estate's Zumic Artist Page.
